Funding to breathe real life into on-campus clinical nursing education
Date: 18/06/2007
The University of Western Sydney will soon provide cutting edge simulation technology to educate its students in the undergraduate nursing degree course using 'dummy' patients that breathe air and have a heartbeat.
A $3.5million federal government grant will enable the development of two high-tech Nursing Development Hubs at the UWS Campbelltown and Parramatta campuses.
The Head of the School of Nursing, Professor John Daly, says students of nursing will have access to state-of-the-art technology in these new clinical learning environments.
"The Nursing Development Hubs mirror real-life situations in clinical practice. Using simulation technology, students can experience clinical settings using computerized mannequins that simulate heart and lung function and reflect patient scenarios."
