Whiplash,

UQ researchers study whiplash in Ipswich
The University of Queensland's Whiplash Research Unit has expanded to open a new research centre at the University's Ipswich campus.
The Centre has been conducting research for 10 years to understand more about what factors help people to recover when they suffer neck pain after a motor-vehicle accident (MVA).
The Ipswich centre is part of a National Health and Medical Research Council funded research centre, and in conjunction with the Centre for National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation Medicine (CONROD).
Whiplash is a common term used to describe the kinds of injuries suffered after a motor-vehicle accident.
Neck pain and headaches are the most common complaints, though symptoms such as dizziness, problems sleeping, and concentration difficulties are also reported.
While most people recover within a few weeks, some continue to have problems.
The Ipswich research centre is undertaking a new study, trying to understand the "big picture" of whiplash and its impact: What factors determine how whiplash influences people's emotional and physical well-being in everyday life?
This study aims to track volunteers over time to monitor their recovery, beginning from soon after their MVA. It involves incorporating some clinical tests (performed at the research center) with innovative monitoring techniques that take the research 'out of the laboratory' and into every-day life.
For this study, the research unit currently seeks individuals aged between 18 and 65 years who have neck pain resulting from a motor-vehicle accident that occurred within the past four weeks.
