College sells land to pay debt

A college in east China has decided to sell 60 mu (40,000 sq meters) of land to pay back debt, zjol.com.cn reported today.

The City College of Zhejiang University (CCZU) in Hangzhou is reportedly to sell the northwest part of its schoolyard.

The municipal audit bureau has previously revealed that five municipal colleges in the city owe a debt of 1.31 billion yuan ($190 million) in total, 828 million yuan ($121 million) of which is believed to be under the name of CCZU.

Expanding enrollment at the college, which is believed to be renowned in the city, was reportedly the cause of the debt after the school admitted more students without enough money, the report said.
